Compliance certification
Re-testing & compliance documentation
Gasfitting in NSW does not end when the wrench goes down. Repaired installations get pressure-tested again before the supply is restored, appliances are relit and checked for correct operation, and certifiable work is documented through a compliance certificate: the record that tells a future owner, tenant or insurer the work was done lawfully.
Scope
What this covers
Post-repair manometer testing of the complete installation
Relighting and combustion-checking connected appliances
Issuing compliance certificates for certifiable gasfitting work
Recording test results and repaired defects for the property file
Timing
When it's needed
After every repair as a matter of course, when buying or leasing a property with an unknown gas history, or when a real estate transaction, insurer or strata scheme asks for evidence the installation is tight and the work on it was certified.
A strong gas smell or the sound of escaping gas means leave first and arrange repairs second: clear the building, keep ignition sources (switches, phones, vehicles) well away, and isolate the meter or cylinders only if safely reachable. Report significant escapes to the gas network's emergency line before booking any gasfitting work.
Quote variables
What shapes the scope
Scope of the repair work being certified
Number of appliances requiring commissioning checks
Whether historical undocumented work surfaces during testing
Documentation requirements of the party requesting evidence
Gasfitting in NSW may only be carried out by a person holding gasfitting authorisation issued through NSW Fair Trading, and it is a separate authorisation from a general plumbing licence. Certifiable gasfitting work must be documented on completion: ask to sight the gasfitting licence before work begins, and expect the certificate afterwards.
