LPG cylinder installations & repairs
Beyond the mains network, Sydney's fringe and plenty of infill properties run on LPG cylinders. The exchange-side hardware (pigtails, changeover valves, the regulator, and the piping into the building) carries its own failure modes, and cylinder hardware lives outdoors where weather and UV work on every rubber seal and hose.

Timing
When it's needed
Odour around the cylinder cage, frost or hissing at the regulator, bottles emptying faster than usage explains, or an installation that predates current placement and clearance requirements. Any suspected escape near cylinders warrants shutting the cylinder valves and keeping ignition sources away while it is assessed.
A strong gas smell or the sound of escaping gas means leave first and arrange repairs second: clear the building, keep ignition sources (switches, phones, vehicles) well away, and isolate the meter or cylinders only if safely reachable. Report significant escapes to the gas network's emergency line before booking any gasfitting work.

Gasfitting in NSW may only be carried out by a person holding gasfitting authorisation issued through NSW Fair Trading, and it is a separate authorisation from a general plumbing licence. Certifiable gasfitting work must be documented on completion: ask to sight the gasfitting licence before work begins, and expect the certificate afterwards.
