Gasfitting services
Test, trace, repair, certify
-
01
Licensed gasfitter
Leak testing & pressure diagnosis
A manometer pressure drop test proves whether the installation is losing gas, and isolation narrows where.
-
02
Gasfitting work
Consumer piping repairs
Repairing or renewing the gas lines on the property side of the meter, in copper, steel or multilayer pipe.
-
03
Type A appliance connections
Appliance connection & regulator work
Leaks at cooktops, heaters and hot water units: hoses, bayonet fittings, isolation valves and regulators.
-
04
LPG gasfitting
LPG cylinder installations & repairs
Cylinder connections, pigtails, changeover valves and regulators on bottled-gas properties.
-
05
Compliance certification
Re-testing & compliance documentation
Proving the system tight after repairs and issuing the paperwork NSW requires for gasfitting work.
How it works
What happens after you report a leak
-
01
Make the area safe
If odour is present: get people outside, avoid switches, flames and anything that sparks, open doors and windows on the way out, and close the meter valve or cylinder valves if they are safe to reach.
-
02
Describe the situation
Where the smell is strongest, whether the property runs on mains gas or LPG, which appliances exist, and what changed recently (a renovation, a new appliance, landscaping) frame the likely search area.
-
03
Testing and diagnosis
The installation is pressure-tested as a whole, then in sections, until the escape is attributed to a length of pipe, a fitting or an appliance connection. The finding is explained before repair pricing is confirmed.
-
04
Repair and certification
The defective component is repaired or renewed, the full system is re-tested tight, appliances are relit and checked, and compliance documentation is issued for the certifiable work.

Straight answers
Gas leak questions
What should I do the moment I smell gas?
Move everyone outside and away from the building, leaving doors open behind you if that takes no extra time. Do not flick switches, light flames, or use anything that could spark near the smell. If the meter valve or cylinder valve is reachable without lingering in the odour, turn it off. Strong or roaring escapes should be reported to the gas network's emergency line before anything else happens.
Who fixes it, the gas network or a gasfitter?
The meter is the dividing line. Escapes on the street side (mains, the service to the meter, the meter itself) belong to the network operator and cost you nothing to have attended. Everything on the property side, from the meter outlet through the piping to each appliance, is consumer piping and needs a gasfitter engaged by the property owner.
How is a gas leak actually located?
A manometer connected at the installation reads whether pressure holds with everything shut off; decay means an escape somewhere. Sections and appliances are then isolated in turn until the losing branch is identified, an electronic detector sweeps the route, and soap solution on suspect joints shows the escape as bubbles at the exact fitting.
My gas bill jumped but I cannot smell anything. Possible leak?
Possible, though not the first suspect. Small escapes can sit below odour threshold outdoors or underground, but usage jumps more often trace to an appliance fault (a hot water unit cycling constantly, a heater running inefficiently) or a tariff change. A pressure drop test settles the leak question definitively either way.
Is a faint smell near the meter ever normal?
No smell should be treated as normal. The odourant added to gas exists precisely so escapes announce themselves, and even a faint persistent smell near the meter deserves reporting to the network operator, since that side of the meter is theirs. If their attendance clears the network side, the trail points into the consumer piping.
What paperwork should I receive after a gas repair?
For certifiable gasfitting work in NSW, a compliance certificate identifying the work performed and the licence holder responsible. Keep it with the property records: it matters at sale time, for insurance claims involving gas, and for any future gasfitter trying to understand what was done to the installation and when.
A strong gas smell or the sound of escaping gas means leave first and arrange repairs second: clear the building, keep ignition sources (switches, phones, vehicles) well away, and isolate the meter or cylinders only if safely reachable. Report significant escapes to the gas network's emergency line before booking any gasfitting work.
